Various Indian Mahāsiddhas

There were a relatively large number of highly enlightened individuals (Mahāsiddhas) in India between ca. 0 CE and 1000 CE, however in spite of their importance to the development Buddhism, relatively little is known about the Mahāsiddhas. Spread over the entire breadth and width of greater India for a period of more than 1000 years, some figures are like legendary phantoms and others are well documented as historical figures. The table below is just a feeble beginning to bring some order into this information. The information below is derived from several sources and an attempt is made here to arrange some individuals into "lineages". Those Mahāsiddhas described in Abhyadatta's "The Lives of the 84 Mahāsiddhas" are marked with an number indicating their order in the book.
